Under the SEA Spotlight today is Ben, our Supply Chain Manager based at our Barnstaple facility. Day to day, Ben manages a busy procurement team and builds, communicates and delivers effective supply chain processes. He also teaches it on behalf of Cornwall College, as part of their CIPS diploma courses. CIPS is the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply who are the body that is globally recognised as leaders of supply chain best practice. Their courses are for people who work within the supply chain environment and want to gain a formal qualification, once the 3 levels are complete, the courses are the equivalent of a university degree.
Ben has been teaching the CIPS qualifications for the past 18 months to students from a variety of different industries! He thoroughly enjoys doing it and the feedback from the students during the lessons is great fun. He also does it to learn about best practice from other companies/industries so that he can introduce the best of those to SEA. In addition as part of his MCIPS status, he needs to do 30 hours per years of CPD which is fulfilled by his teaching.
Ben said: "The feeling at the end of a day’s teaching is one that I have not experienced before, as you are exhausted, but on a high from the adrenaline of answering challenging questions the entire day! I know that if I don’t prepare then I’ll let the students down, and luckily my current cohort have a 100% pass rate, so I haven’t failed them yet!"
